And with no car one may arrive three additional ways.
By Small Plane:
There is a small airport located just outside Quepos, Manual Antonio. Dominical is approximately a 30 minute drive from the local airport.
We can arrange for a pickup at the Quepos airport and bring you directly to your accommodations here at the Sanctuary. Please inquire about the cost for the taxi from the Quepos airport to the Sanctuary. The cost for a plane ticket will range from $75.00 to $100.00 one way, depending on the time of year and the availability of the flights. There are two carriers that offer this service and we suggest that you check both for availability and cost.
By Shuttle and Shared Shuttle Service:
There are shared shuttle services that depart daily for Dominical from San Jose for a cost of $55.00 to $65.00 per person one way depending on the pick up location. The shared shuttle travel time can vary from 3.5 to 5.5 hours depending on the amount of travelers on that specific day.
If you provide us with your arrival time in Dominical Central before you depart by shared shuttle we will arrange for your transport to the Sanctuary from Dominical at no additional cost to you.
We can also arrange a direct private shuttle service from San Jose International airport direct to the Alturas Animal Sanctuary for up to eight people. The length of travel time for the privet shuttle is approximately 3 hours. Please inquire about the costs as we have a few different options for a private shuttle service.
This is your most cost effective means of travel at about $12.00 one way, but the least convenient way to travel. Buses arrive two times per day directly from San Jose central travelling along the Costanera highway stopping in Dominical on the way South to the Panama border.
You may also take a bus to San Isidro General going the mountain way, but you will need to make a transfer to another bus when you wish to arrive in Dominical. We recommend that you take a direct bus, but if you are adventurous and have some time, this is a good way to see the mountains and other sites.
If you provide us with your arrival time in Dominical Central before you depart by bus we will arrange for your transport to the Sanctuary from Dominical at no additional cost to you.
If you are arriving from the south of Dominical:
From The South:
From Panama there are buses that can take you directly to Dominical going North to San Jose or you may need to make a bus transfer in Palmar Norte depending on when you want to arrive. A taxi service is an option, but it will cost you at least $100.00 from the Panama border one way.
